This is why I LOVE Memphis: “I think Memphians are more likely to tell you to go fuck yourself than provide the lost tourist with concise directions to Graceland.”

This has got to be the BEST description of anything, ever: “The disaster area that the Hi-Tone had turned into at that point was a little hard to describe. It looked like a gas station bathroom had exploded and they put out the fire with Pabst.”

Excellent read Doc! I’d say you hit the nail on the head on just about everything. One thing that I noticed that is just a bit different in my opinion is the Memphis folks. While I stood outside of the BBQ Shop smoking a cigarette, every single person who walked towards the door actually greeted me before they went in. I had not intended to speak a word to any of them but I’ll be damned if I didn’t get realed in by their southern hospitality. Of course, had I asked them for directions to Graceland they could have very well told me to piss off!

Why is it that every time I stay at a dive hotel there’s nothing cool going on? Once I stayed at a very fancy hotel, for one night, to which me and my friend got off the elevator in our swim suits, towels in hand, greeted by a bunch of prom-going teenagers. That’s as lucky as I get.
