You might know Doc Popular as a nerdcore rapper, or a lo-fi techno musician who plays on bent toy electronics, or maybe you bought one of his crafty blue jean wallets, or read one of his comics, or maybe you’ve seen him in a video or two. But I think this is the first time anyone has actually got him to sit down and talk about his career as a yo-yo champion. One doesn’t get many chances to see a yo-yo champ perform, so I had to interview this San Francisco-based renaissance man when he was in St. Louis recently to judge a yo-yo contest. Oh, and I should mention that the music in this video was also written and performed by the man himself. Ok I was confused, the music is by The Atomic Bros, sorry about that.

Awesome.
Wow. A man and his yo-yo are a beautiful thing.
That was the coolest thing I’ve seen in a long time. I like the little bit of reverse action at the end.
Still working on actually getting DocPop.org up, but all my other sites are working.
Like Bill said, the music is by The Atomic Brothers. It’s off of a split album we made together. You can download the entire album here for free. http://www.drownradio.com/the-atomic-bros-vs-drown-radio/
oh man! two of my favorite guys in one spot thanks bill.(the two are bill and doc) dont forget that doc wrote and performed with me the vlog deathmatch video - http://vlogdeathmatch.blogspot.com/2007/05/irina-slutskys-vlog-deathmatch-entry.html
also, i’m always telling doc that he was supposed to
put my voice thru and “aretha box” for “boobs in a box”
because no one knew exactly how horrid my singing was going to be but me. if anyone has an aretha box, pls send me one.
This was great! I used to yo yo quite a bit and can still do a decent cat’s cradle, but I’ve never seen anything like this stuff.
I’m not sure where you come up with this stuff, but keep it coming!
Nice video.

Sweet! However long it’s been since the last time you did one of these mini-docs has been TOOO long.
I just love them. They’re awesome.
Liked the little backwards trick at the end as he leaves. Nice touch.
A special treat in the comments. I remember that video that Irina did for vlog death match. I would have never made the connection if she hadn’t mentioned it.
Keep rocking!

Too awesome. I think that yo-yo is just an extension of his body. And it’s ALL about yo-yo breakdancing.
The music is what makes the video work……very cool stuff.
