#161 Gore Gore Girls
Posted on: May 14, 2007
I got a chance to catch this amazing group from Detroit at the Atomic Cowboy in St. Louis a couple of weeks ago. This blurb from their official press release does a good job of describing what they are all about:
“Gore Gore Girls are a musical meeting of the Stooges and The Ronettes. The Gals of Gore deliver what other contemporaries can’t: a powerful, girl-group sound you can rock out AND dance to. An R&B and punk rock union made in heaven! Gore Gore Girls’ simple, straight-forward take on hip shakin’ rock-nroll numbers with low-fi sensibility makes them noteworthy and original. Influenced by equal parts Kinks, Stooges, Marvelettes and some down home dirty love, Gore Gore Girls know how to deliver caustic yet sweet pop numbers in an original girl-group style.
Gore Gore Girls 2004 is guitarist/songwriter and lead vocalist Amy Surdu, ghost-of-Keith Moon Nikki Styxx on drums, charm school reject Marlene Hammerle on guitar and beauty pageant runner-up Jen ‘The Deuce’ Pirch on bass. Four girls from Detroit with a penchant for Rock n Roll and an obsession with B-movie culture …”

I’m really surprised to not see any comments on this. Did you hate it? Come on you can tell me! You won’t hurt my feelings!
Awww. Poor thing. Well, here’s ya a comment sweety.
I didn’t comment because I was so incredibly jealous that you got to see them. I was looking forward to it for weeks, and I’m up at Atomic almost every Tuesday, but I still missed it. OTOH, I appreciate the idea of comment whoring on Twitter, so I thought I’d pay it off for you. I really was glad that you posted this though, it’s the closest I’ll get to seeing them until they come back to town.
I’m pretty sure I missed it because of finals in school and I am so backlogged in feeds. But it was a good read especially after see the the video on girls rockers on youtube. I’ll have to try and catch them live sometime. Hey do you post on twitter when you update your post? I notice alot of other blogger and vloggers are doing that. Do you think it’s a good idea?
sorry. i missed it. i guess that’s why god invented RSS, but i hadn’t subbed to your site. you may chastise me.
the video is nice. got me to trying to figure out how many cameras you had to have to do it. There’s nice switching among the angles and the sound flows perfectly. well-done.
I agree, the video is nice, I’m just not into the Gore Gore Girls. Maybe Al is
Yeah I whored myself for comments on twitter–so sue me. I don’t plan on making it a habit. Most of my posts get comments so I don’t have to anyway. I was just curious about this video because it got a lot of views and no comments and they seem to be a fairly popular band … so it was curious.
TheFemGeek: You did watch this video right? I was just curious because you said it was a good “Read” and that wasn’t really the point. The video is the thing … I’m just sayin.
TheFemGeek: and yes I do post to Twitter when I put up a new video.
I wish I had that kind of clout, 8 comments, well 5 not counting you….The video I liked, the girls not so much….but it just may be the mood i am in lately…
Bill — Nice job with the filming, but I don’t think this was the GGGs’ finest hour. They didn’t sound all that great, especially Amy’s vocals. Was this the best song of the lot? Also, that description of the band is old. Deuce no longer plays bass for them. I have no idea what the new bass player’s name is.
