#63 The Highway Matrons - Got the Blues for Xmas

Music on this piece: The from St. Louis.

Merry Christmas, everyone!! It’s been a good year for some people and not such a good year for others. Here’s to a good 2006 for everyone.

Eh … Call me an optimist.

I’m taking a week off and my next post will be right around first of the year. And weekly after that, again, as usual. I have some great things planed for the new year so stay tuned!!

And if you’re wondering what Al Lien is doing for the holidays … well he was invited to host a special over at GaragePunk.com Pirate Radio. Keep an eye out for it here!

They are ’s folk-rock band. You have see them in my video about Bob Reuter, and you’ve met Fred in my video about his bar here.

I’m guessing that the video is from the archive? … really interesting juxtaposition (no spelling check) … great video … loved it

Wow! Thanks for the excellent content! (Loved the video. Is that from Fred? It looks suspiciously like St.Louis…)

Garsh…I RECORDED the song off the website (direct to cassette tape on 09/26/06). Ooops! Mea Culpa! Then again, maybe that is okay for ME to do…

As the original lead guitarist for The Highway Matrons (them-thar SAME ones listed on this page no less…eeee-yup, I was right there for the deciding-upon-of-the-band-name, ‘cuz I was IN it at the time…), I am TRULY appreciative of your presentation!

Sitting here in New Castle, PA at 3:30 a.m. (without a job), I am reminded that when I today played my (”purloined” & utterly crappy) recording of this song for the dear friend I am staying with, she actually “got it”. Unfortunately she also said “…if that was only recorded and played for people on the radio…”. I guess most people don’t understand how INCREDIBLY difficult it is to get exceptionally good music published & played, eh?

Fred is an old roomie, as was Mark S. of The BooRays.(I was the original “other guitar and vocal” for THAT band, too…at least as far as the recording and writing goes.) F***ER threw a pot at my head one night and shattered the back [security glass] window over the kitchen sink…did you think the lyrics in this song were not true to life?

Son-of-a-bitch! Somebody finally published something REAL on the web! I congratulate you and THANK YOU, even if belatedly.

Keep up the good work, PLEASE!

          Respectfully yours,

          -Matt Weyerich
